Speaker: Rami Aboumourad, OD, FAAO
Description: This program is designed to provide education on recognition, testing, and treatment of plasminogen deficiency type 1 (PLGD-1). PLGD-1 is a rare condition that results in fibrin-rich ligneous lesions presenting in mucous membranes throughout the body. The most commonly observed manifestation is found in eyes and may present as recurrent conjunctivitis. This presentation will discuss the systemic nature of this disease and its diverse manifestations, how to test and diagnose, and the first and only approved treatment that replaces plasminogen in the body.
